Welcome back to WIP Wed! Today is a second Alpine Hat! This hat is the size small (provided I've done my math correctly, so we shall see!)
someone holding a small circle of crochet, worked in the round, and a crochet hook. The hook is metal with a carved wooden handle, and the yarn is yellow sock yarn with black flecks, held double.
Yarn is Wool is the Answer 4-Ply Superwash Merino with Neps in "Mustard", held double!   Graciously, I have some leftovers from a previous yarn support request, and I'm thrilled with that!  I get to use the leftovers for another project, and this hat seemed perfect!

It's wonderful yarn -- it holds up well to frogging, and has a great feel to it while I work it.  That said, I don't think it would work for socks, though as a) it has no nylon content, and I like my socks to have nylon if they're not BFL, and b) I'd be worried about the Neps wearing out.  But for other stuff, it works up very well. I'm holding it double to get about the equivalent of DK (or maybe a light worsted), and that works well!

(And yes, there is another project in this yarn coming soon -- stay tuned!)

Originally I wasn't thrilled with the Neps, -- I usually don't like 'bits' in my yarn, but, this yarn is definitely growing on me. The Mustard colour isn't my usual colour choice, but that's one of the wonderful things about yarn support -- it makes you look outside your natural colour choices!

For hooks, I started the hat with my 3.75 mm (US F) hook from Turn of The Century, but my tension wasn't quite accurate, so I went back to my 3.5 mm (US E) hook from *Leither Co., (which I won from the Marly Bird Yarn Thing Podcast), and that's the hook you see here!

The Leither Co. hook originally had me wondering if it would work for my hands and crochet style -- many crochet hooks cause my hands to cramp up.  But, no, the Leither Co. Hook actually works quite well for me, which is quite exciting -- I tend to be a bit of a a "Goldilocks" when it comes to crochet hooks.

I'm only a few rounds in with this picture, but it grows pretty quickly!  Hopefully I'll have more to show you folks next week!

So what are you folks working on today? Any new cast-ons?  Post them in the comments -- feel free to share!
