Welcome back to WIP Wednesday! This week is a newer project, once I haven't yet shown on the blog (though I have mentioned it on Patreon), the Anghymesur Shawl.
This shawl is an asymmetrical shawl that will work for a single skein of sock yarn, and it's going to be released as a Patreon Exclusive to thank my first 5 Patrons! I'm really enjoying working on it, though the rows are starting to get long. The lace is complicated enough I do need the stitch chart open, but not so complicated that I can't do other things -- I took it to Knit Night, without too much trouble.
The stitch pattern is based off of the amazing work of Naomi Parkhurst, and her encoding of words into lace.
Yarn is Dragon Strings Phoenix Wings Gradient in "Dark Crystal", that I got at the Woodstock Fleece Festival last year. it feels a bit rougher then most sock yarn, but wears really quite well. It's a merino/nylon blend. I thought about using it for socks, but then my socks wouldn't match, and I think this shawl should nicely show off the gradient better then socks will!
Needles are an inherited pair of needles. They're listed as '11' on the needle end, but my needle gauge gives them as 3mm needles. (Which means that they're sized in Canadian/UK sizes, which makes sense, since these were inherited.) They're a tiny bit bent, which should be a surprise, since they're older then I am! They're longer straights (I haven't measured them, but at a guess they're 14 inch straights). So they should hold this shawl for a good while, and I have knit a shawl on these needles before, so they should hold all the stitches!
Yarn bowl is from the amazing *Natural Knot Wood, and I've been singing the praises of it since I got it. Sadly, the artist behind Natural Knot Wood has passed away, so now I'm treasuring this yarn bowl even more, knowing I can never get another one like it. His Etsy store will remain open with the last few stock under the care of of his wife, and then, that's it, the shop will shut down.
Stitch markers are the same set of the *Silver Rose Stitch Markers that I was using for the Woodland Hat. I got a set of 10 of these from *EfficientSense's Etsy Store, and you can tell they get a lot of use!
Well, I think that's just about it for this week's update. I hope you like the look at a new pattern!
As always, I'd love to hear and see what you folks are making! Please, feel free to post your crafty projects in the blog comments, so I can be amazed by your awesome work! Until next week!
