Beautifully cabled and designed to fit up to an 18-inch calf, the Luckenbach socks are equally adept at being shown off in walking shoes or keeping you cozy in cowboy boots. The cables are simple yet elegant and suitable for anyone with a solid grasp of sock-knitting basics.
These beautifully cabled socks are perfect to show off with a skirt or a pair of walking shoes. They come in two sizes, a standard 6 inch (15 cm) leg length, and a knee-high (10 inches / 25.5 cm) with calf shaping!
And yes, they are knee-highs, scaled to an XL 16.25 inch (40.5 cm) calf circumference! They're knit using a variety of fingering-weight yarns designed for socks -- I would suggest a wool or wool blend with either silk or nylon for added reinforcement. I would not suggest a cotton or bamboo blend, as the knee high socks depend on the elasticity of the wool to help them stay in place and not slouch down to your ankles!
Sample was knit in Gritty Knits Hombre (60% superwash Merino, 20% Yak, 20% Silk) 400 yards/366 meters per 3.5 ounce/100 gram skein, and shown in Size XL in the colourway "Catahoula".
These socks are knit from the cuff down on circular or double pointed needles. The heel flap is knit flat and stitches are picked up and knit from the slipped stitch edge of flap, then decreased to form the gusset. The toe is decreased, and the final toe seam is grafted together.
