Alright, I'm back with another WIP Wednesday post! This one is a new cast on as a new pair of Woodland Mittens!
I cast these on knowing, that, shockingly, I actually need a new pair of mittens - I've finally worn through my previous pair, and the original sample pair for the Woodland Mittens (knit in Baa Ram Ewe's Dovestone DK, which is now discontinued and replaced by Woodnote DK), need some serious mending.
So, I cast on a new pair of mittens. Please forgive the less than polished photo -- this was taken on a Go Transit bus on my way to Fergus Fibre Festival - it makes for good transit knitting, though occasionally I did have to check the cable chart just to confirm which way a cable was supposed to twist. (Though that might be due to my lack of sleep - it was a very, very, early morning to get up to the Festival!)
I got my hands on some Many Hues Fibre Arts Sock Yarn (sadly, their Etsy Shop seems to be shut down right now, hopefully they rejoin the yarn world!) in the gorgeous "Andromeda" colourway, which I've been absolutely dying to use, but, it was the wrong weight. However, doubling up a fingering weight yarn actually gets you pretty close to a DK weight yarn, so I tested it out and am super happy, both with how it looks but also how it feels!
Needles are my *3.5 mm (US 4) 8 inch double pointed needles - I very much prefer a longer DPN, especially when I'm working a thumb gusset and want all the stitches to stay on the needle! I do, eventually plan to add a cord to them, and I'm debating if I want it to be an I-cord, or if I should switch to a crochet hook, and do a crochet chain from the last stitch of my bind-off. Luckily, I still have some time to figure that out!
These are going to be primarily a transit knitting project, I think. Most of my other projects are too unweildy right now to take with me while I travel. But, the first mitten is already done, so here's hoping for an FO Friday post soon! Wish me luck!
