Well, I'm finally making an effort to post more WIP Wednesday posts, since it's been a while!   I keep neglecting to post these, so here's hoping I can get back into it!

a sweater on a set of wooden circular needles. The sweater is knit in a striping yarn with thin horizontal stripes in purple, green, orange, blue, purple and brown.
This week's WIP Wednesday is the beginnings of a commission sweater!  Patrons, you've already seen this one (though I had to rip back to the armholes again since then, since I messed up my armhole/neck math), but, it's coming along nicely all the same!

The pattern is a very basic drop-shoulder design.  I'm using Anne Budd's Handy Book of Patterns as a vague reference (the sweater pattern there is a set in sleeve pattern, but it's not too hard to convert and still gives me some basic construction), with further modifications, as my client would like a slightly different neckline, as well.

ADHD Tangent: I think I need to get a copy of the Handy Book of Sweater Patterns - my library does have a copy, and I've used it, it's a wonderful starting point for sweater sizing, grading and construction --  but it's always got a super-long hold waitlist!  Next time I get paid by a magazine, I think I might see if I can find a Canadian distributor and get myself my own copy!   Anyone got recommendations for Toronto-area or GTHA yarn shops that stocks this book?  I'll make some inquires myself when I'm at the local stitch night, too!

Anyway, back to the sweater knitting.  The yarn is Lang Yarns Cloud in the colourway "Nebula" and honestly, I wasn't sure how this was going to knit up!  But I (and, more importantly, my customer) are happy with it so far so here's hoping that the sleeves don't pool too weirdly and we'll be good to go!  It's a very soft and squishy yarn, and it's a 'blown' yarn - that is, it's superfine merino blown into a nylon mesh, so it's very squishy and soft but still great to work with.  My one worry is that I suspect it might felt easily, so I'm definitely sticking with the yarn label on this one, it's a hand-wash yarn!

Needles are my *4 mm circulars - I started these on a pair of 4 mm straight needles, but I managed to snap those!  There's a whole saga to that -- Patrons got to read it a few days ago --  but, luckily I had these circulars on hand to work with!

The nice thing about this being plain stocking stitch plus a heavier yarn is that it knits up surprisingly fast, even on 4 mm needles.  My previous sweater attempts have always taken more time then I thought they would, but this is coming together at speed (which is good, since I'm behind on other commissions!)   . . . of course, now that I've written that, I've invoked Murphy's Law and, something's going to go wrong. 😅

Since this needs to be done, I suspect it's going to be the Youtube Live project for a bit, especially because, since it's mostly plain stocking stitch, I can easily knit and talk to the wonderful folks who come in and hand out in chat - rather then having to try and split my focus between chat and the pattern.  So, if you want to see this sweater live (what a weird sentence to type!) and have the chance to ask questions in real time (though I love blog comments, it can take me a bit of time to answer!) join me on Fridays over on Youtube!
