Alright, it's almost February and welcome to the Polar Vortex here in North America (I'm still bemused and horrified that Ontario, for a time, was the coldest place in the world!) So, layer up, all my North American folks (especially the southern folks who don't usually get this cold - your houses aren't built for this, and it absolutely sucks. I'm -so- sorry!)
For some small help with that layering (and some knitting to hopefully help with everyone's stress and sanity!) the Spiralling Star Mittens are February's Knit-Along Pattern.
Don't have the pattern? That's not a problem, the Spiralling Star Fingerless Mittens pattern is 50% off for the Knit-Along, right through the month of February. You can get the pattern in my Web Shop, Etsy, and Ravelry! And patrons have access to the pattern, you can download it in the Patreon Shop!

Don't have the money for knitting patterns right now because of, well, /flails madly/ everything going on in the world? I get that. Here's a reminder you can get a free pattern of your choice by signing up for my e-mail newsletter. I promise, I don't spam!
I know it might seem crass to be promoting things and asking you to sign up right now, but the free pattern on e-mail signup has always been one of the ways I've made my patterns financially accessible to folks with no disposable income, and I want people to know it's a no-questions-asked way to get a free pattern, and hopefully, a teeny bit of joy in the knitting of it. (ADHD brain tangent: I've seen a few people attempting to be financially accessible ask invasive financial questions because they want to make sure it's only going to folks who couldn't afford it otherwise. Well, nope, not doing that gatekeeping here! Want a free pattern on sign up? Then you get a free pattern on signup - just e-mail me your pattern choice, that's it! 💙)
Also, this design work is my day job - my only job -- so sadly, I do have to make my attempts at marketing my patterns, since I need to do things like pay bills and rent. So if you do buy the Knit-Along pattern, thank you! It's just me in this business, /waves in disabled queer artist/ so buying patterns helps make sure that I (and the kitties), can pay rent and get food in this cost-of-living crisis!
Ok, enough of that, onto the pattern info!
The idea for the Spiralling Star Fingerless Mittens came from an online knit-along which challenged participants to create something using the Star Stitch pattern. While swatching, I found a particular version of the Star Stitch that created a spiral effect, and these mittens were born from that!
These fingerless mittens are worked from the cuff-up in the round, with the Star Stitch pattern continuing onto the thumb gusset. The top cuff, bottom cuff, and thumb are edged with 1 by 1 ribbing.
They come in four different adult sizes, with a hand circumference of 6.5 (7, 8, 9) inches, 16.5, (18, 20, 23) cm. The sizes are non-gendered (because what is a "Woman's Small" size, anyway? 🙄) with adjustable cuff and thumb lengths.
The sample is knit in the now-discontinued MadelineTosh Eyre Light, (60% Merino, 20% Silk, 20% Alpaca), in "Mill Pond". Any fingering-weight or sock yarn should work up well in these, however, substituting yarns, please be aware that the yarn chosen should be a yarn with at least some stretch.
Now, onto the other important part, the Knit-Along Details!
For the month of February, every finished pair of mittens has a chance to win a $25 USD Gift Card from Knit Picks, or, a $30 CAD Gift Card from The Knitting Loft! This choice is due to the Canada/US tariff situation; when I contact the winner, I'll ask them which shop they would prefer.
Please note that the Knit Picks gift card is, unfortunately, only available if you are in the US or Canada.
And, a reminder: I am no longer taking entries here on the blog, as
