So I finished another thing for FO Friday, and there's something cathartic about finishing an object and getting it off the needles! Say hi to my Holland Cowl!
I did really try and get a picture of me wearing it, but my selfie taking skill is, uh, non-existent. (There's a reason I pay someone to take pattern pictures for me!) So I settled for my attempt at a classic flat-lay picture at one of my favourite indie coffee shops, instead (along with a very tasty London Fog!)
The yarn is Universal Yarns Mystical Marl in "Lagoon" and "Midnight" (huge thanks to KNITMuch for both the yarn and the needles, you'll be able to read the whole saga of knitting this cowl and working with the yarn over on their blog very soon!) It's a very neat yarn. I wouldn't have necessarily chosen it for myself, but the Lagoon colour caught my eye! It's 50% acrylic and 50% cotton, and I was really worried it would be a) too rough for next-to-skin and b) not warm enough!
But I was proven wrong on both counts. It's warm enough that I was sweating with it on on a cool fall day, and, it's super soft for next-to-skin! It's actually a very smooth yarn, and I think that's due to the anti-pilling acrylic in the blend.
I knit it on a set of 5 mm Knit Picks Rainbow Wood Circulars, also thanks to KNITMuch! And while I love the Rainbow wood tips, the one downside of the 16 inch cord is that the needle tips are actually shorter - which is not my preference, shorter needle tips often cause my hands to cramp. (This is true for any shorter needle tips, it's why I struggle with the teeny 9 inch circulars - it's got nothing to do with the needles and everything to do with my knitting style!)
I'm debating if I would want to knit this again on longer needle tips, but that would mean faffing about with Magic Loop, which, while I can, is unappealing for a cowl.
I've actually got a bunch of stuff on the needles, so, to clear one off is very stress-relieving. Has anyone else finished A Thing? Share in the Discord or link it in the comments - feel free to share!
