Welcome back to the Monthly Knit-Along - this September, I'll be knitting along with you, as I try and finish a Woodland Hat for some Birthday Knitting!  Please help keep me accountable so that my giftee gets their present on time!  😅   (I'm not sure if my giftee reads my blog, but I do know she follows my socials - but I've already made inquiries to her about yarn colours anyway, so I think she pretty much knows what she's getting. . . but I'd like to try and pretend to keep it a surprise!)

Don't have the pattern?  I've got you covered there, the Woodland Hat pattern is 50% off for the Knit-Along, right through the month of September.  You can get the pattern in my Web Shop, Etsy, Ravelry, and Patreon.  Also (assuming I've done my job with Patreon's new shop editor), Patrons already have access to the pattern, you can download it in my Patreon Shop!

The design for this hat came about thanks to two things: first, the (now defunct) Ravelry Designer’s Challenge, based on a woodland theme, and second, my roommate needed a new hat!

She wanted something that was thick and warm with a brim that could fold up over the ears. So, I started experimenting with different hat designs, but most of them didn’t seem warm enough. After trying various knitted linings, I came up with this idea. It’s thick, warm, and heavy enough to keep all but the worst of the winter winds out!

The sample is knit in size small, and uses Squoosh Fiber Arts Ultra Worsted, though it looks like Squoosh Fiber Arts is no longer in business, sadly.  For a similar yarn, I'd suggest something like *Sweet Georgia Yarns Superwash Worsted.  When looking for a substitute, the yarn should have a good bit of structure to it, -- I'd suggest something multi-ply with a high wool content.  A worsted weight acrylic or acrylic/wool blend could also work well.

The Cable Stitch patterns have written and charted instructions. This pattern also has an accessible large print option that is compatible with screen-reading software, which includes the written instruction.

Now, onto the important part, the Knit-Along Details!

For the month of September, every finished hat has a chance to win a $25 USD Gift Card from Knit Picks, or, a $30 CAD Gift Card from The Knitting Loft!  This choice is due to the Canada/US tariff situation; when I contact the winner, I'll ask them which shop they would prefer.

If you're outside Canada or the US, sadly, I can't do gift certificates, but, you can, instead win 4 patterns of your choice from my Web Shop!

And, a reminder:  I am no longer taking entries here on the blog, as there have been issues with comments not coming through properly, and people not getting notified of replies.  I love seeing your projects in the comments, but, sadly, they don't count as KAL entries.

You can enter the KAL by posting on Facebook, Instagram, and, Discord (for a non-Meta option!) giving 3 chances to win in total!

I always look forward to seeing your Finished Objects! Please post them to various social media with #SarahDawnsDesigns, and #SarahDawnsDesignsSept2025 and/or share them to the Facebook Group or to the Discord! That way, I can see the awesome that you folks make!
