Alright,so I'm on a roll finishing things and that's showing on this FO Friday post: I finished the Buttoned Wrap Skirt! The knitting and sewing in of ends is done, though, you can tell it still needs a wash and block (that should fix the curling at the bottom hem). But, it's done!
This skirt as had to be re-knit twice, once because it needed to be a different size, and once because I messed up the decreases at the slope for the front. And it takes A While to re-knit 24 inches of stocking stitch. So I'm very, very glad it's done!
I'm now just awaiting a photo shoot with it, which will hopefully be happening very soon!
The yarn is Olive and Two Ewe's Tolkien Base in "Wisdom" and it's a very interesting yarn. With 50% Merino Wool and 50% Cotton, it has a really nice feel to it - I can definitely tell it's got the cotton in the blend, but it's still got the softness (and warmth) of the Merino. I'm hoping with the wool blend this will actually be a year-round skirt!
It was knit on a set of 3 mm Vintage Needles, still bearing the old UK sizing of size 11 (these needles were inherited from my grandmother!) Though I knit this skirt on a pair of 14 inch long straight needles, I'd very strongly suggest *circular needles instead, especially if you're knitting a larger size. I was knitting the Medium, and had to crunch the stitches up on the needles and there were a few moments -- especially before I'd done most of the decrease rows -- where the stitches would fall off the tip of the needle despite my best efforts.
The buttons are raided from my button jar, I have no idea what they're originally from, but I thought they looked good as a contrast, so, there they are! (Some of those buttons in the jar are from my mother and grandmother, so the buttons sometimes predate me!)
The pattern calls for 3/8 inch (10 mm) buttons, though I think you could go a tiny bit bigger and still be ok. That said, if you're having trouble finding smaller buttons, I usually get mine from *Bonjour Handmade Craft if I'm not raiding my button jar.
So that's another finished object, with (hopefully) a few more on the way! Feel free to share your own finishes (or WIPs) over on Discord or in the comments - hopefully I can keep up the motivation and clear some more things off the needles!
