Hello and welcome to the August Knit-Along! The Heritage Tweed Vest is a versatile, unisex pattern designed for bulky yarn, making it a super-cozy layering piece perfect for cooler weather. This vest can be dressed up with a collared shirt for the office or paired with a casual shirt for a relaxed look, ideal for enjoying a mug of hot chocolate.

The vest is knit in the round from the bottom up, then split for the armholes and knit flat. The shoulders are shaped with short rows and finished with a three-needle bind off. The collar and armholes are edged with one-by-one ribbing, picked up and knit around the openings, adding a polished finish to this classic piece.  It comes in a range of sizes from Adult XS (32 inch finished bust/chest measurement) to a 3XL (62.5 inch finished bust/chest measurement).

The sample is worked in Size S (37 inch finished bust measurement), using *Knit Picks City Tweed Aran/HW in "Harbour Seal"  If you're looking to substitute yarns, any heavy-worsted or aran weight yarn is a good place to start - I'd suggest wool or acrylic as the base of a blend.  Though it was designed for tweed yarns, a solid or tonal colourway would also work up well for this pattern!

The Lattice Stitch pattern has written and charted instructions, for both flat and in-the-round. This pattern also has an accessible large print option that is compatible with screen-reading software, which includes the written instruction.

 Now, onto the Knit-Along Details!

For the month of August, every finished vest has a chance to win a $25 USD Gift Card from Knit Picks, or, a $30 CAD Gift Card from The Knitting Loft!  This choice is due to the Canada/US tariff situation; when I contact the winner, I'll ask them which shop they would prefer.  (And, if you think you can't finish the vest in the month, that's perfectly alright - you can still get the discount on the pattern!)

If you're outside Canada or the US, sadly, I can't do gift certificates, but, you can, instead win 4 patterns of your choice from my Web Shop!

Please note, that, sadly, I am no longer taking entries here on the blog, as there have been issues with comments not coming through properly, and people not getting notified of replies.  I love seeing your projects in the comments, but, sadly, they don't count as KAL entries.

You can enter the KAL by posting on Facebook, Instagram, and, Discord (for a non-Meta option!) giving 3 chances to win in total!

I always look forward to seeing your Finished Objects! Please post them to various social media with #SarahDawnsDesigns, and #SarahDawnsDesignsAug2025 and/or share them to the Facebook Group or to the Discord! That way, I can see the awesome that you folks make!
