And I'm finally back on WIP Wednesday with a project that, if you've been lurking on my Youtube Livestream, you'll have seen it - I'm knitting up a Palomar Top for the KNITMuch Blog!  Also, Patrons, you've already seen a different look at this top over on Patreon (and if you haven't, go check out that post too!)

knitting on straight needles, laying flat. It is the bottom hem of a top, with 2 by 2 ribbing and then a crossing cable motif on a background of reverse stocking stitch.

This is actually the second half of the Palomar Top, the pattern is written with identical front and back (so it's completely reversible, which is interesting, I'll have to see what that does to the final fit!), and I've already knit one half, this is half number two!  It's seamed up the sides, and then stitches are picked up for the neckline and armholes.

So far, I'm very much enjoying it.  I've made my own few alterations to the pattern (and found one suspected typo in the process), but, it's complex enough that it's enjoyable, but simple enough I can take it with me to lectures and workshops, so, that's quite the win!

Yarn is Universal Yarns Bella Tweed in "Care", kindly given to me by KNITMuch to knit this project up! I love the fact that it's recycled cotton - it's a teeny bit rough on my hands to knit with, but I'm hoping it softens up with washing.

Needles are 3.75 mm *Knit Picks Rainbow Wooden Straight Needles, (also originally sent my way from KNITMuch!),  and I'm thrilled I finally got the chance to try the Knit Picks straight needles.  I'm actually a fan of long straight needles, and these are a glorious 14 inches long, so, it holds all the stitches for the top without any kind of problem!  The top actually has you working the ribbing on a smaller needle and going up a size for the main body of the top - but when I went to the 4 mm needles, I found that my tension was off - so I'm just opting to do the entire thing on the 3.75 mm needles, instead.

I'm actually really thrilled about how quickly this top has come together - I've already finished one side.  With a little bit of luck, I'm hoping to have the top finished by the first week of May - so please, wish me that luck!  The saga of knitting this will also be posted up over on the KNITMuch blog in Summer 2025 (complete with Cable Tutorial Videos), so, stay tuned over there, as well for all the adventures in knitting this up!
