Alright, we're back for WIP Wednesday with a project that I started on the Youtube Livestream - a set of convertible mittens! These are going to be a Christmas Gift, but I can't name for who, since I know they sometimes read the blog and have me on some of the socials! So. . . someone might recognize their gift from these posts - that's all I'm going to tease!
After two failed cast on attempts that you didn't see (I started these Thursday evening before I went live with them and twisted my cast on both times!) I got the ribbing done on the livestream, and put some work into these over the weekend (including charting out the first snowflake pattern!) I'm hoping to finish them in a few days so I can go back to a magazine sample-knit, but, these need to be done first so I'm not knitting on Christmas Day!
Pattern is one of my own, and I will be publishing it - however, I won't be publishing it right away. These mittens are made for someone with bigger hands then me and they live a few hours away - there's no real way to do a decent photo shoot. So, I plan to make a second pair for me - maybe in the same colours, maybe not. Also, because I plan for them to be convertible mittens, they will have to be different left and right, and that also means that that pattern takes a touch longer to figure out and be tested (since I need testers for two mittens, rather then just one!)
Yarn is *Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport, in the colourways "Fedora" (now discontinued), and "Oyster Heather" These were a gift to me from a family member's yarn destash, and have been languishing in my stash until I figured out what to do with them - now I have a project for them!
Needles are *Knit Picks 2.5 mm Nickle Plated Circulars, and, I've gushed about these needles before, but I'll say it again - for the price point, they're amazing. I've bought needles that are far more expensive, and were not worth it, these, these are worth it. And, for this pattern, I'm abusing the heck out of the cord to knit the thumb gusset; and they're holding up very, very well, I've had other brands of needles that have had the cord snap out from the strain. The Knit Picks needles? Complete non-issue.
My beginning/end of round marker is this adorable *Crab Stitch Marker, while my thumb gusset marker is *made from Sea Glass - both are from *WineMakersSister's Etsy Shop.
Hopefully, these will knit up comparatively quickly so I can get into my other projects - I have a commissioned sweater project upcoming that my customer has given leave for me to share', so I'm looking forward to that, too (though getting the yarn for that during a Canada Post strike, may prove to be interesting, we shall see!) Wish me luck!
