Welcome to November, with freezing nights and. . . . 22 C days? Yep.  Weather is drunk. Usually, I'd be switching over to my winter coat and knitted woolies right now, but instead, I'm here in a tank top, deprived of the chance to wear my knitwear! It's a travesty!  So, while I may have planned the Celtic Hood pattern for the November KAL, now I'm sitting here, hoping it gets cold enough later I can actually -wear- said hood.

. . . . Anyway, yes, the Celtic Hood is the November Featured Pattern and Knit-Along.  Don't worry, if you don't have the pattern, it's 50% off through the month of November during the Knit-Along! (and yes, you can absolutely double dip with the 2024 Fasten Off Yarn Along, provided you can knit your hood quickly enough, as they start November 22nd!)

The Celtic Hood was to fill a gap in my own knitting library. I found I only had few hood patterns, and none for adults. And when an internet search failed to turn up what I wanted, I decided to design it myself!

This hood starts with the cable panel, which is knit flat. The neck is knit in the round, then the cable section is joined to the neck with a three-needle bind off. The body of the hood is knit back and forth, picking up stitches from the edge of the cable pattern. Finally, stitches are picked up from the other side of the cable pattern to make the edge of the hood. So while it is an exercise in more unusual construction, there's absolutely nothing scary about it, I promise!

The yarn is *Cascade 220 Superwash Wool, in "Rose" but, any worsted-weight wool or wool blend should substitute quite well. Worsted/Aran weight acrylic yarn would also substitute nicely, if desired.

This pattern has both charted and written instructions, as well as an accessible large print option that is compatible with screen-reading software. This option includes only the written instruction.

You can buy the pattern through Etsy,  in my Web Shop, in my Patreon Shop, or, on Ravelry.  The discount is available on all platforms for the month of November! (Psst, if you're a Patron, you can just download the pattern for free from the Patreon Shop!)

Now, onto the Knit-Along! For the month of November every finished hood has a chance to win a $25 Gift Card from Knit Picks (US/Canada only at the moment, sorry!) or, 4 patterns of the winner's choice from my Web Shop!  To enter on the blog, simply post a link to a picture of your finished hood by the end of November 2024. Please note that the hood doesn't have been started in November just finished in November, -- yes, WIP's are always allowed in the monthly K/CALs!
