Welcome to September! With the nights just starting to get cooler, it's the perfect time to get a jump start on Winter Knitting (and the dreaded Holiday Gift Knitting, if you do that!) And, to help you get the jump start on the Winter woolies, this month's Featured Pattern is the Woodland Mittens!
Don't worry, if you don't have the pattern, it's 50% off through the month of September during the Knit-Along!

The original inspiration for Woodland Mittens was the Woodland Hat pattern, that I designed for the (now defunct) Ravelry Designer’s Challenge, based on a woodland theme. This stitch pattern brought to my mind the image of moss in the knots of trees, with it’s double-moss stitch enclosed within the cable sections.
I thought that the stitch pattern also would work well for a pair of mittens, and so, these mittens were born! The mittens are knit from the 1 by 1 ribbed cuff up and the thumb is done with a side-seam thumb gusset. The cable motif continues through the top decreases of the mitten. The mittens are mirrored, with a different left-hand and right-hand mitten. Each mitten has a cable pattern on the back of the hand and a slipped-stitch textured palm. The extra yarn on the palm helps keep the hand warm and provides an additional layer against friction and wear (as well as providing help in making snowballs!)
This pattern has both charted and written instructions, as well as an accessible large print option that is compatible with screen-reading software. This option includes only the written instruction.
The sample was knit in Baa Ram Ewe’s Dovestone DK, which is a DK-weight
blend of several different breeds of sheep’s wool. Since this yarn is now discontinued, I'd suggest *West Yorkshire Spinners Fleece BFL DK as a substitution.
You can buy the pattern through Etsy, in my Web Shop, or, on my Patreon Shop, the discount is available on all platforms for the month of September! (Psst, if you're a Patron, you can just download the pattern for free from the Patreon Shop!)
