Welcome back to WIP Wednesday!  Today is a new cast-on, for a pair of custom commissioned legwarmers from the Necessity of Innovation Legwarmers pattern.

lace knitting on two straight knitting needles. The yarn is bright blue, and the ball of yarn attached to the knitting transitions from bright blue to bright pink. Two blue glass stitch markers are hooked over the knitting needles.

When I started this commission, it became instantly clear that the pattern as written would have fit problems for my customer.  A bit of sluthing shows that well, I made this pattern back  before I really understood grading and sizing, so; this pattern is now on the to-do list for a serious upgrade to bring the larger sizes into something that will fit a lot better.  (More on that over the next couple of months - I've talked about it a bit more in-depth on my Patreon!).   So, resizing this pattern to make the commission work is a great proof-of-concept for what will become pretty close to a complete re-write!

(Don't worry, if you've already bought the pattern, I'll make sure you get the update when it comes out!)

Yarn is *Knit Picks Stroll Gradient in "FOMO", which is a sale colourway at the time of this recording that won't be returning.   Sad, because it's a very fun colour gradient; going from the bright blue you see on the needles, through the rainbow to a brilliant pink!  (The yarn description compares it to "a pack of highlighters" and that's pretty accurate to the colour - the colours in the picture are rather dull, once again, I'm photographing during a thunderstorm warning!)

Needles are some inherited Aero straight needles that still have the UK sizing on them!  I originally tried these on 3 mm (US 2.5)  needles (which is what the pattern suggests),  but, since Superwash Wool has a tendency to grow  when washed, I ended up going to 2.75 mm (US 2) needles to make this work a little better.

Stitch markers are probably pretty familiar to you folks if you've followed the blog - they're my *Sea Glass Stitch Markers from *WineMakersSister's Etsy shop.   They're marking the side of the repeat and help me guide where the increases in pattern go - and they're great for this, because they can't snag on the sock yarn, and they're big enough that they keep their place even with a yarn-over next to them!

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this so far.  Have you cast on anything new in the summer heat?  Sound off in the comments!
