Alright, so my squishy yarn mail came Monday night; with two skeins of yarn destined to be a second pair of Pine Cone Gloves!  Since there's a deadline; I jumped right in, and that's what this week's WIP Wednesday project is - the start of the second set of Pine Cone Gloves!

I know the cuff looks unreasonably tiny, but that's  by design - this is size XS, which is a 6 inch wrist circumference; and this pattern takes full advantage of the stretchiness that is ribbing - so don't worry, it does fit!

Yarn is *Knit Picks Twill Fingering in "Patchwork Heather" and I confess, I hadn't even looked at the Twill Fingering line when I was looking at yarn for these.  I'd looked at *Knit Picks Stroll Fingering (I wanted nylon in the blend so it would be hard wearing, as gloves often take a beating), and I'd also looked at *Knit Picks Hawthorne (which doesn't have the nylon, but is wool, not Merino, and the texture is different enough that I suspect it could also stand up to the beating gloves take).

But, when e-mailing about yarn support, the kind folks at Knit Picks suggested I try the Twill Fingering instead!  I'm a few rows in, and this was, 100%, a great idea! It doesn't have the Nylon like Stroll Fingering does, and it's not quite at tightly spun as the Hawthorn, but it's got enough of a ply to it I'm not worried about it pilling like the Stroll can sometimes do.

Needles are 2mm (US 0) Hiya Hiya double-pointed needles - I wanted a very tight tension on these, because a tight, dense fabric helps them wear better - I thought about going down to my 1.5 mm (US 000) needles (Yes, I own a pair, I don't use them often, but I do have them!) but right now, I'm happy with the fabric I'm getting on the 2mm needles!

The stitch marker came over from the first Pine Cone Gloves - it's a locking *Dolphin Stitch Marker from *NotionsEmporium.   Locking stitch markers are perfect for working with double-pointed needles, as you can clip them into the work and not have to worry about them falling off the end of the needle!   Plus it functions as one of the thumb gusset markers, as well.

Any exciting yarns that you've gotten to try for the first time?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
