Welcome back to WIP Wednesday! And today is a new project, a bit of some frantic knitting because of upcoming deadlines!  I -thought- I had something ready for a deadline, but no, it ended up not working due to size, so, I'm playing a game of yarn chicken with a pair of Woodland Mittens!  (This also works in my favour, as it's back to above 30 C  here, so,  I don't want to be knitting anything heavy or big!)

a fingering-weight mitten in progress on double-pointed needles. It has a cable pattern along the back of the hand, and two silver stitch markers clipped in.

Yarn is *Knit Picks Palette in "Rooibos Heather", and I'm definitely playing yarn chicken.   I have one ball, which is 231 yards.  The size large of the Woodland Mittens calls for 310 yards.  So at first glance, the answer is 'no'.

But hear me out:  I went down a needle size (currently working on my 3.25 mm Aero double-points), and the Palette is thinner then the sample yarn, so I've managed to match gauge.  I'm knitting the cuff, thumb, and hand length according to the Medium (or even Small) size of the pattern (I'm customizing these to fit my recipient as best I can!) -- the Medium calls for 247 yards, the Small for 175 yards.    Now, remembering that I usually add in an extra 10 to 15 percent to my yardage estimates. . . I -might- have enough out of one ball of Palette.  I'm weighing my yarn as I go, and the answer is so far 'maybe.'

I'm really, really, hoping I do have enough yarn.  I mean, that was the entire point of this stash-busting exercise.  Plus, the deadline for these is coming up fast; and if I have to wait for a second ball to get to me in the post. . . well, that sort of defeats the purpose!

Both stitch markers are from  *NotionsEmporium -- one is the beginning/end of round marker, and one I've used for marking the thumb gussets.   As usual, I -strongly- recommend locking stitch markers whenn working on DPNs, so you don't ever have to worry about them slipping off a needle end!

What are you folks working on this hot Wed afternoon?  I'd love to see! (Please, no Ravelry project links though, as Ravelry is, unfortunately, still a seizure risk. But IG posts, Facebook posts, blog posts, or anything else is more then welcome)!
