Welcome back to WIP Wednesday! And the Dr. Who scarf knitting continues! (With assistance from the new ShadowKitten, of course!)
Honestly, his commission hasn't been as onerous as I'd been afraid of. While it's definitely time-consuming, it actually knits up fast, and being able to see my progress has really helped me keep my interest in it. And because it's all garter-stich, I can work on it in meetings, workshops, and even on the bus to a vaccine appointment! (Yes, I've had my first COVID shot now, yeay!)
Most of the yarn is *StyleCraft Special DK, with the brown being *Knit Picks Brava Sport in "Brindle." And this amazing fan-site was a superbly useful resource for colour-matching yarns for the scarf. The only yarn I couldn't figure out how to match without making many orders from many places was the Green - I went with *StyleCraft Special DK in "Khaki" after some additional research.
When I first started this project, I looked at the BBC's official pattern, and it suggested 5.5 mm needles -- which actually worked out for my tension! I'm almost spot on the estimated row gauge, which is actually more important for this pattern, as it's more about making each stripe line up as close as possible to the original then it is to duplicate the exact width. It will continue to stretch with washing and wearing (apparently, the original scarf stretched to over 20 feet long with time!)
Just after writing this, I'm taking this scarf and hopping over to a *Teachable Webinar -- and I'll be taking this scarf with me! So hopefully I can get some more work done on it today.
