Welcome back to WIP Wednesday, and with a few more things sorted, I can get started on some commissions -- the first of which is a Dr. Who scarf (yes, the absurd 12 foot long one!)

a striped scarf in garter stitch.
I originally swore I would never make one of these, but, surprisingly, it knit up really fast, I think because it's all garter stitch, so I can do it during class/meetings/etc.   I've been working on it over on Twitch, and enjoying it immensely!

Most of the yarn is *StyleCraft Special DK, with the brown being *Knit Picks Brava Sport in "Brindle".  In my research for this project, I found an amazing fan-site that's dedicated to putting together information for all the Dr. Who scarves throughout the seasons, and they were an amazing resource for colour-matching yarns for the scarf.   The only colour I couldn't match from their list was the Green -- I went with *StyleCraft Special DK in "Khaki" after some additional research.  (For some reason that I no longer recall, I also ordered a skein of "Meadow", but that's skein is definitely not going to colour match at all; so that will become something else!)

Needles are some Aero 5.5 mm needles, as suggested from the original BBC pattern. Apparently, though the official pattern is somewhat inaccurate (it was published a minimum of 6 years after the scarf was made); the needle size it suggested worked out almost perfectly for me.  I'm almost spot on the estimated row gauge, which is a bit more important in this pattern to get the absurd length correct. It's a teeny bit wider then the original scarf is suggested to be (estimates put the original scarf at somewhere between 11 to 12 inches in width, while mine is sitting at 13), but as the scarf will stretch with wear and time; I'm not too worried about that.  If I went down to 5 mm needles, it's enough of a difference to make the scarf a bit less drapey and compress the stripes a bit from their original estimated measurements, so I'll take the compromise of a bit wider scarf instead.

This has been -perfect- balcony knitting, now that the weather has become quite glorious!  Once I finish a few other submission knits; I might take a day and just knit on this in one of the local parks!  (It's also become my knitting for my Welsh Class -- because it's just garter-stitch with a slipped-stitch edge, I can knit on it while keeping my attention on the class!)

What are you folks working on this week?  Any fandom-inspired knits you want to share?   Feel free to post them in the comments! (Please, no Ravelry project links though, as Ravelry is, unfortunately, still a seizure risk.  But IG posts, Facebook posts, blog posts, or anything else is more then welcome, I'd love to see what you're working on!)
