Welcome back to WIP Wednesday, and I (finally) have a new WIP to show off, amidst the frantic sample knitting!

So, I started the Fireside Mittens, inspired by a magazine call. But, I wasn't accepted (which is very common, magazines way more submissions then they could ever publish and the decision process is very challenging!) so, I thought, lets publish them myself!

A crochet mitten cuff done in a textured crochet stitch. It uses fingering-weight variegated yarn in yellow, orange, red, and black. Two silver stitch markers are clipped into the cuff.
And since I'm going to need that hook for a new project very soon, I want to get them done!

Hook is a 3.5 mm (US E) hook from Leither Co. that I was lucky enough to win on the Yarn Thing podcast, and it's been in one project or another pretty much every day since it came to me in the mail.

Yarn is a Merino/Nylon/Cashmere blend that came to me as a random act of internet kindness, but it came without the ball band, so I'm not sure on the dyer!  But, it spoke perfectly to me on the theme of "Fire" so, here we are!

Both the *Silver Feather and the *Angel Wing stitch markers are from *NotionsEmporium (previously known as efficientsense's Etsy shop), and they're great for use in crochet -- the lobster claps work well, both to mark stitches, and to keep the work from unravelling when I put it away!

The fabric isn't super-dense, these wouldn't be suitable for the depths of winter on their own.  But as a layering mitten, or a mitten to be worn on cooler spring days?  They should work out amazingly well!

So, yeay for a return to WIP Wed!  What have you folks been working on in the early days of 2021?  Any New Years cast ons?
