Welcome back to WIP Wednesday, and I have a WIP to show off (finally!)
In an attempt to clear my needles of some WIPs (so that I can do even more sample knitting), I've made a focus on clearing out a pair of socks. I started these ages ago for a magazine submission that wasn't accepted; and now get to show them off to you!
Needles are 2 mm (US 0) *double-pointed needles (which as my personal favorite way to do socks, and work quite well for this stitch pattern!)
Yarn is Tina's Toasty Toes Sock in "Ben Day Dots", and it's such a fun colour! I got introduced to this yarn via an act of Random Yarn Kindness from Rachy Newin Designs, and I'm adoring it! This type of 'rainbow' yarn isn't my usual choice of colours, but these socks have been such fun to knit! One minor grumble -- because this yarn is so wonderfully colourful, it took several tries to find a stitch pattern that wasn't just a jumble of colours (and let's face it, this is still a jumble of colours, but I like it!)
Stitch Marker is the *Ocean Shell Stitch Marker from *WineMakersSister's Etsy Shop.
I'm tentatively calling them the Riotous Noise socks. They're wonderfully colourful, and 2020 definitely needs a colourful, joyful pair of socks! But they're also named such because 2020 has been riotous (in both the literal and non-literal sense!), exposing the faults in our societies and bringing many social issues to the forefront -- something I hope that folks continue to remember. Just because the civil disobedience across the world isn't making the news (or Twitter) anymore doesn't mean these issues have magically gone away.
My very original name for these socks was the "Joyful Noise" socks, drawing from Psalm 100 of the Bible, but that didn't quite fit, mostly because I can't claim that 2020 has been joyful. "Riotous Noise" just seemed to fit a lot better.
I'm working on these to clear the needles for another upcoming magazine submission -- so I'm -so- excited to have something to share here on WIP Wed again!
How is your crafting going? What WIPs are you working on! Feel free to share in the comments!
