So, this is something new for this FO Friday, the Celtic Hood!   It was originally written up as a possible magazine submission,  but, I've decided to self-publish it, instead, so, look for the test-knit call coming soon!  This is the Celtic Hood, a worsted-weight knit hood with a cabled border!

A woman wearing a red knit hood, with a cabled-stitch border around the front of the hood. The hood has a ribbed neck that falls over the top of the shoulders.

I've been testing this hood out in our cool fall weather, and, I may be biased, but I'm absolutely in love.  It keeps my head warm, and works over a hair bun (an important consideration for me when I'm looking at hats and hoods!)  And I can even say it kept my head dry in a cold fall rain.

Yarn for the sample is the ubiquitous Cascade 220 Superwash in "Rose", though any worsted-weight wool or wool blend would work up well (acrylic would also work well, but wouldn't be quite as warm).

The sample is knit both flat and in the round, but don't worry, it only needs one set of *4mm (US 3.5) circular needles, plus 1 spare needle for three-needle bind off.    The cable section is knit first, working flat, then the ribbing for the neck and shoulders is worked in the round.  The hood section is knit flat, picking up stitches from the cable panel as you go.  Finally, a garter stitch border is picked-up-and-knit around the edge of the hood.

And yeay!  I'm so happy I can finally share this pattern with you all!

What awesome projects have you finished up today!  Links in the comments, please, I'd love to see!
