Well, I'm thrilled to say, after staying quiet about these for a while -- the Ar Lan y Môr Socks are now available in Knotions Magazine!
Photography: Kellie Nuss for Knotions Magazine |
The Ar Lan y Môr (Welsh for ‘by the seaside’) Socks were inspired by the ripples of seaweed and other water plants that grow just below the waterline of many lakes, rivers and seas around the world, as well as the imagery of the Welsh folk song of the same name – flowers and grasses rippling beside the sea.
The garter and stockinette stitch lace gives the socks some stretch without being too snug on the leg. The leg and foot length are both adjustable to the wearer’s preference, and the stitch pattern is complicated enough to keep some interest, while simple enough to be ‘television knitting’.
Socks are available in two different sizes, at 7 and 8.25 inch leg circumferences (18 (21) cm)
The sample is knit in Cascade Yarns Heritage in the colourway "Anis", but any wool or wool/nylon sock yarn world work up wonderfully in these socks. The suggested needle size is *2.25 mm (US 1) needles, and you can use either DPNs or Magic Loop -- the pattern is written to be "needle agnostic." They're knit from the cuff down, and the lace pattern is both charted and written
