Why the "Necessity of Innovation"? Because I got tired of having to take my boots off to take off my legwarmers! So, these are knit flat, then fasten up the side with buttons or a zipper (instructions for both are included). See? Necessity inspired innovation!
The samples are shown in *Dream in Colour Smooshy, in the colourway "Brilliant"

Buttons shown on the sample are *12 mm buttons from *BonjourHandmadeDIY, but any 12 or 14 mm (1/2 or 5/8 inch) buttons would work nicely for the button-up version.
The pattern also has the option to add a piece of ribbon or cord at the top, to help keep the legwarmers from slouching down your legs over the course of the day. Sample also uses *Organic Cotton Ribbon, from *TheSewingRetreat, but since this doesn't require a lot of ribbon -- 79 to 96 inches (200 to 244 cm), depending on your size -- it's a great way to use up the end of a spool of ribbon! (You could also make an i-chord to use up some stash yarn, too!)
The lace and cables pattern is both written and charted, and, there is a large-print version available as well, that is also compatible with screen-reading technology!
