Well, welcome back to WIP Wed, and the first WIP Wed in 2019!

This week (and for the foreseeable future), I'm working on a new pattern -- the Marianna Shawl!  I had a couple of false starts, but now I've got the shawl going strong as I figured out the pattern draft.   I'll be knitting it over on Twitch for the next little while, and it's planned as the Q2 Pattern Release for the Pattern Muses over on Patreon.   It's a square shawl, (though you can't tell that from the scrunched up lace in the picture), and there will be a textured edging and border.    I'm hoping to have it released for April/May 2019, but that will partly depend on how long this takes me to knit!  I've got 1300 yards of the yarn; so I'll be at this for a bit!
Knit lace on a circular needle. The yarn lace yarn in a deep blue-green colour. There are 3 feather stitch markers and 1 dolphin stitch marker clipped into the work.

Speaking of yarn, the yarn is *Knit Picks Gloss Lace in "Marina", which is a lace-weight 70% Merino and 30% silk.  The colour is discontinued, but Gloss Lace is still available!  I got 1300(ish) yards of this (3 skeins) back in 2014 during a *Knit Picks sale, and I am quite enjoying it!  It does mean that my knitting plan for this shawl is 'until I run out of yarn!'  But I'm ok with that.

And actually, that's where the pattern name came from!  Usually I struggle with pattern names, but this time, I kept misremembering the colourway name as "Marianna" rather then "Marina", so the shawl name just came quite organically this time!

Needles are 16-inch circular 3.5 mm (US 4) needles.  I thought they were *HiyaHiya Needles,  but I can't anything stamped on the needles or the cord and usually Hiya Hiya needles have something stamped somewhere.  So I'm not sure what needles they are, but they're doing the job quite well.   They've got a bit of a snag at the join between the cable and the needle, but now that I'm not magic-looping, it seems to work out just fine.

The stitch pattern is actually based on the work of the wonderful Naomi Parkhurst of Gannet Designs -- she's more then willing for designers to use her stitch patterns in their work, which is super-wonderful of her!  So I'm re-working her 'Glacier' stitch pattern for the main body of the shawl, and sorting out the repeats has been an interesting and educational process for me!

Stitch Markers are from EfficientSense's Etsy store -- the *silver Angel Wings are marking each section of the square shawl, and the *jumping dolphins are marking my beginning/end of round.   And, she's a Torontonian, as well, (spell check insists that's not a word) so shipping was super-fast for me!

Well, I think that's it for this week's WIP Wed, and thanks for reading along! I'm thrilled to be back and posting again!

And, as always, I'd love to see what you're working on -- please, feel free to post links to your projects in the comments, so I can see all the amazing things. Also, if you're working on one of my patterns, tag it as #sarahdawnsdesigns so I can find you on Social Media!
