Hello once again folks, and welcome back to WIP Wed!  This week's post is all about the game of Yarn Chicken I'm playing with my Anghymesur Shawl!

I know I said that I was almost done.  Then this got sidelined while knitting for some deadlines, but, now I'm working on it again, and I'm still 'almost done'.  But I really am!  I have only a tiny bit of yarn left, and I'm hoping I can make it through a repeat!  This stitch pattern, (used with permission from the amazing Naomi Parkhurst), stops after row 16 or 32, and I'm hoping I can get there.  I think I might be underestimating my yarn!

A lace shawl on a set of straight needles. The yarn is a gradient from blue to red, and there is a small amount of yarn left in the cake of yarn. There are a number of stitch markers with silver charms looped around the needles.
Yarn is Dragon Strings Phoenix Wings Gradient in "Dark Crystal". I got it at the Woodstock Fleece Festival last year.  I was struggling with what to make with it, since I only got one skein, and I'm one of those folks who wants their socks to match, so socks were not an option with this yarn.   But, this shawl design lets me customize exactly how much yarn I'm using, so, I should be good (current game of yarn chicken aside, of course!)

Needles are a very old pair of what I think are Aero Needles.  (the age being why the one is bent!) I think these needles might be older then I am -- they were inherited from my mother's needle stash, and I believe from my grandmother's as well!  The needle ends have '11' marked on them, but I think they're sized in Canadian/UK sizes  which makes sense -- conversion charts say that 11 Canadian is a 3 mm needle, which is what my needle gauge says these are as well!

The various stitch markers are from  *Efficient Sense's Etsy Store --  I've used two different sets to mark the repeats, one is the *silver rose stitch markers and the other is the *Celtic Knot Stitch Markers.  Both have worked out really well for this project -- the lobster claws are big enough to slip over the needles.

This shawl will be released, when done, for my first five Patrons over on Patreon, as a huge (and exclusive) 'thank you' for the first five folks who support me (and will remain available to all Patrons after that!)  So, if you're interested in this pattern, I'd love to have you join my crafty yarn adventure over on Patreon!   And, if you join before the release, you'll also get exclusive access to pattern drafts, a guaranteed spot as a test-knitter, and more!

Well, thanks for reading along this far!  I hope you're enjoying WIP Wed as much as I am!  As always, I'd love to hear and see what you folks are making! Please, feel free to post your crafty projects in the blog comments, or tag them with #sarahdawnsdesigns on Social Media, so I can be amazed by your awesome work!

Until next week!

  1. The colourway is gorgeous. It looks like it's going to be a lovely shawl when it's blocked.

    1. Thank you!

I actually just got it off the needles last night (I did, in fact win the game of yarn chicken, yeay!) I still have to block it, I'm hoping it opens up.

And yeah, the yarn is gorgeous. I can't say enough awesome things about it!
