Welcome back! This week, I've been doing a lot of knitting on stuff that I can't quite share yet, so, I'm doing the uncommon thing, and showing a WIP that's not one of my own designs! (Actually, one of the best ways for a designer to learn is to knit other folks patterns!) And yes, this might actually qualify as a half-finished object (it's only one sock), but, it's also a WIP, so this is where I've decided it goes!
Also, can you tell I often suffer from Second Sock Syndrome? I finished that first sock December 2016!
Anyway, they got pulled out of deep hibernation, since I needed a temporary new knitting bag. So, I took the big tote these were in, (I just re-purpose reusable tote bags and grocery bags as project bags, I admit it!), and am using that tote while my knitting bag is in the laundry. Also, my apologies for the photo, the sock didn't want to lay flat no matter what I tried! I think it was crunched up in the tote bag a little too long . . .
So, these are my Hermione's Everyday Socks. The pattern is a free pattern from Ravelry, and this is actually pair number two! It's a wonderful, simple sock pattern, that does great things about breaking up variegated yarn colour runs. The stitch pattern is simple enough that you memorize it quickly, and overall, it's just a great pattern!
Yarn is Nerd Girl Yarns Astral, in "Pluto." It's 75% Merino, 20% Nylon, and 5% Stellina, for some sparkle! I got my skein from *Eat.Sleep.Knit, as a 2016 exclusive colourway (so the colour isn't available any more), Sadly Eat.Sleep.Knit isn't stocking the Astral sock base any more, but, Nerd Girl Yarns is still producing the Astral Sock and it's still available on their webite.
Needles are my *HiyaHiya 2mm dpns. as always. I find I do much prefer dpns over Magic Loop, for socks. I can do both, I don't hate Magic Loop (I actually quite like it for things like hats, where I have to decrease and am too lazy to find other needles!) but I prefer dpns for socks.
I'm honestly not sure how much I'll actually get done on these. It's far more likely they'll just go back into hibernation until I have time to work on them again. But, pulling them out was a good thing, it reminded me just how much I love this combination of yarn and pattern. So maybe I will work on them as my 'brainless project' -- that is, something I take to meetings and on the transit. I haven't decided yet.
Well, as always, thanks for reading along! As always, please post your own crafty WIP awesomeness to the comments -- I love to see what folks are working on! Until next week, and happy crafting!
